Mariella Novotny was born in London in 1942. Her father was born in Czechoslovakia. According to Christine Keeler, her real name was Stella Capes but she changed it to Mariella Novotny because it "had a more whiplash ring to it." She also claimed that she was the niece of the former President of Czechoslovakia.

After the death of her father she became a striptease dancer to support her widowed mother. Novotny also worked as a prostitute in London. Christine Keeler later recalled: "She had a tiny waist that exaggerated her ample figure. She was a siren, a sexual athlete of Olympian proportions - she could do it all. I know. I saw her in action. She knew all the strange pleasures that were wanted and could deliver them."

In 1959 Novotny began a relationship with Horace Dibben, a wealthy antique dealer and nightclub owner. He was 36 years her senior. She told a friend that: "I've met a lot of rich men in my time as a dancer, but none has shown me the care, love and attention that Hod (Dibben) has."

On 29th January 1960 she married Dibben at Caxton Hall. The journalist, Philip Knightley, reported that: "As one hundred guests drank champagne at Dibben's West End club, The Black Sheep, and cut slices from an 18-tiered wedding cake, Dibben announced that he had given Mariella a 20-room, sixteenth-century mansion in Sussex and a luxury flat in Eaton Place for a wedding present. Her engagement ring was a 200-year-old diamond and sapphire antique."

In 1960 she travelled to the United States with Suzy Chang. It is believed that both girls worked at the Quorum Club in Washington, run by Bobby Baker, and became involved in relationships with leading politicians. This included both John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Recently released FBI files claim that Stephen Ward was involved in supplying these girls. The FBI investigation also suggested that a "Hungarian madam in New York" was also involved in what was called the "Bowtie" case.

In December 1960 a television producer called Harry Alan Towers, invited Novotny to join him in New York City. She later told a friend that "I wanted to be famous and show my mother that I could make a go of life myself."

Novotny was arrested on 3rd March 1961 by the FBI. Novotny was charged with soliciting. Three days later Towers was charged with violation of the White Slave Traffic Act, alleging that he had transported Novotny from England to New York for the purpose of prostitution.

On 31st May 1961 Novotny boarded the Cunard liner, Queen Mary, using the false name of Mrs R. Tyson. By the time the ship reached Southampton, the British immigration authorities had received word from the FBI that Tyson was really Mariella Novotny and that she was wanted in the United States in a "sex-for-sale" case which involved men in "high elective office in the United States government."

The FBI case against Novotny and Harry Alan Towers was eventually dropped. Novotny returned to running sex parties in London. So many senior politicians attended that she began referring to herself as the "government's Chief Whip". As well as British politicians such as John Profumo and Ernest Marples, foreign leaders such as Willy Brandt and Ayub Khan, attended these parties.

In December 1961 Novotny held a party that became known as the "Feast of Peacocks". According to Christine Keeler, there was "a lavish dinner in which this man wearing only... a black mask with slits for eyes and laces up the back... and a tiny apron - one like the waitresses wore in 1950s tearooms - asked to be whipped if people were not happy with his services."

In her autobiography, Mandy (1980) Mandy Rice-Davies described what happened when she arrived at Novotny's party in Bayswater: "The door was opened by Stephen (Ward) - naked except for his socks... All the men were naked, the women naked except for wisps of clothing like suspender belts and stockings. I recognised our host and hostess, Mariella Novotny and her husband Horace Dibbins, and unfortunately I recognised too a fair number of other faces as belonging to people so famous you could not fail to recognise them: a Harley Street gynaecologist, several politicians, including a Cabinet minister of the day, now dead, who, Stephen told us with great glee, had served dinner of roast peacock wearing nothing but a mask and a bow tie instead of a fig leaf."

On 14th December 1962, John Edgecombe, fired a gun at Stephen Ward's Wimpole Mews flat, where Keeler had been visiting her friend, Mandy Rice-Davies. Edgecombe was arrested and three months later he was jailed for seven years for having a gun with intent to endanger life. National newspapers reported that Keeler did not appear in court as the main prosecution witness and was believed to have fled the country.

On 21st March, George Wigg asked the Home Secretary in a debate on the John Vassall affair in the House of Commons, to deny rumours relating to Christine Keeler and the John Edgecombe case. Richard Crossman then commented that Paris Match magazine intended to publish a full account of Keeler's relationship with John Profumo, the Minister of War, in the government. Barbara Castle also asked questions if Keeler's disappearance had anything to do with Profumo.

The following day Profumo made a statement attacking the Labour Party MPs for making allegations about him under the protection of Parliamentary privilege, and after admitting that he knew Keeler he stated: "I have no connection with her disappearance. I have no idea where she is." He added that there was "no impropriety in their relationship" and that he would not hesitate to issue writs if anything to the contrary was written in the newspapers.

As a result of this statement the newspapers decided not to print anything about Profumo and Keeler for fear of being sued for libel. However, George Wigg refused to let the matter drop and on 25th May, 1963, once again raised the issue of Keeler, saying this was not an attack on Profumo's private life but a matter of national security.

On 5th June, John Profumo resigned as War Minister. His statement said that he had lied to the House of Commons about his relationship with Christine Keeler. The next day the Daily Mirror said: "What the hell is going on in this country? All power corrupts and the Tories have been in power for nearly twelve years."

Some newspapers called for Harold Macmillan to resign as prime minister. This he refused to do but he did ask Lord Denning to investigate the security aspects of the Profumo affair. Some of the prostitutes who worked for Stephen Ward began to sell their stories to the national press. Mandy Rice-Davies told the Daily Sketch that Christine Keeler had sexual relationships with John Profumo and Eugene Ivanov, an naval attaché at the Soviet embassy.

On 7th June, Keeler told the Daily Express of her secret "dates" with Profumo. She also admitted that she had been seeing Eugene Ivanov at the same time, sometimes on the same day, as Profumo. In a television interview Stephen Ward told Desmond Wilcox that he had warned the security services about Keeler's relationship with Profumo.

The following day Ward was arrested and charged with living off immoral earnings between 1961 and 1963. He was refused bail because it was feared that he might try to influence witnesses. Another concern was that he might provide information on the case to the media.

On 14th June, the London solicitor, Michael Eddowes, claimed that Christine Keeler told him that Eugene Ivanov had asked her to get information about nuclear weapons from Profumo. Eddowes added that he had written to Harold Macmillan to ask why no action had been taken on information he had given to Special Branch about this on 29th March. Soon afterwards Keeler told the News of the World that "I'm no spy, I just couldn't ask Jack for secrets."

The trial of Stephen Ward began at the Old Bailey on July 1963. Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies, were both called as witnesses. Ward testified that he had informed MI5 about Keeler's affairs with John Profumo and Eugene Ivanov. This was denied by MI5.

Ward took an overdose of sleeping tablets on the night before the last day of the trial. He was in a coma when the jury reached their verdict of guilty of the charge of living on the immoral earnings of Keeler and Rice-Davies on Wednesday 31st July. Three days later, Ward died in St Stephen's Hospital.

In his book, The Trial of Stephen Ward (1964), Ludovic Kennedy considers the guilty verdict of Ward to be a miscarriage of justice. In An Affair of State (1987), the journalist, Philip Knightley argues: "Witnesses were pressured by the police into giving false evidence. Those who had anything favourable to say were silenced. And when it looked as though Ward might still survive, the Lord Chief Justice shocked the legal profession with an unprecedented intervention to ensure Ward would be found guilty."

At the end of the Ward trial, newspapers began reporting on the sex parties attended by Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies. The Washington Star quoted Rice-Davies as saying "there was a dinner party where a naked man wearing a mask waited on table like a slave." Dorothy Kilgallen wrote an article where she stated: "The authorities searching the apartment of one of the principals in the case came upon a photograph showing a key figure disporting with a bevy of ladies. All were nude except for the gentleman in the picture who was wearing an apron. And this is a man who has been on extremely friendly terms with the very proper Queen and members of her immediate family!"

The News of the World immediately identified the hostess at the dinner party as being Mariella Novotny. Various rumours began to circulate about the name of the man who wore the mask and apron. This included John Profumo and another member of the government, Ernest Marples. Whereas another minister, Lord Hailsham, the leader of the House of Lords at the time, issued a statement saying it was not him. However, Time Magazine speculated that it was film director, Anthony Asquith, the son of former prime minister, Herbert Asquith.

Novotny refused to comment on her activities and the man in the mask remained unidentified. However, in 1971 she published a book, King's Road a Novel of London's Turned-on Jet Set. In 1974 she published several articles in Club International in which she described her affairs with several famous people.

In 1978 Novotny announced that she had started work on her autobiography which would include details of her work for MI5. In November 1980 she claimed that her book would include details of a "plot to discredit Jack Kennedy". She added, "I kept a diary of all my appointments in the UN building. Believe me, it's dynamite. It's now in the hands of the CIA."

The book never appeared. Mariella Novotny was found dead in her bed in February 1983. It was claimed by the police that she had died of a drug overdose. Christine Keeler later wrote: "The Westminster Coroner, Dr Paul Knapman, called it misadventure. Along with People in Moscow, I still think it was murder. A central figure in the strangest days of my life always believed Mariella would be killed by American or British agents, most probably by the CIA." According to Stephen Dorrel: "Shortly after her death her house was burgled and all her files and large day-to-day diaries from the early sixties to the seventies were stolen."

Britain's Minister of War John Profumo, husband of refined movie star Valerie Hobson, has been sharing the sexual favors of teen tart Christine Keeler with Soviet spy Eugene Ivanov . Keeler's blond pal Mandy Rice-Davies, 18, declared in court that she had bedded Lord Astor and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Mariella Novotny, who claims John F. Kennedy among her lovers, hosted an all-star orgy where a naked gent, thought to be film director and Prime Minister's son Anthony Asquith, implored guests to beat him . Osteopath and artist Stephen Ward, whose portrait subjects include eight members of the Royal Family, has been charged with pimping Keeler and Rice-Davies to his posh friends. Part of Ward's bail was reportedly posted by young financier Claus von Bulow.

When the FBI investigated they were able to involve Mariella with a Hungarian madam in New York. What alarmed them further was my association with Eugene. You could see how two and two could add up to a very big number indeed with all this information. I believe the Americans were convinced that a worldwide sex-for-information network, an elaborate blackmail operation, was going on. And that the most powerful man in the world, their president, had sampled the pleasures of these female sex spies. Certainly, Bobby Kennedy did not conceal the concerns of himself and his brother.

The Bowtie files talk of Stephen's American connections such as Averell Harriman, the former US ambassador to London, and the billionaire Paul Getty. There is mention of the "Man in the Mask" party. Mariella's story was published on 29 June 1963, and she talked only of Chang and "a US government official who holds a very high elected post".

At 3.05 p.m. that same afternoon, the President's brother called Courtney Evans, a senior deputy of the FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover, to tell him about the story and order an investigation. According to a memo, "the Attorney General stated that the President had expressed concern regarding this matter'. The FBI, which had been concentrating, foolishly, on the air force guys, now went all a flutter. Memos were circulated between Hoover and his deputies about the possibility of "an espionage-prostitution ring operating in England with American ramifications".

Bowtie files show that FBI agents were sent out all over America, where Suzy Chang and Mariella had worked. 'They identified Chang as Esther Sue Yan Chang, the daughter of two Chinese immigrants who lived in New York, but who had herself been refused a visa to live in America.

Maria Novotny knew little of her own background: it wasn't until this year that her husband learned her real name. Maria Stella Novotny was born on the 9th of May 1941 in Prague. Her father was brother to the President of Czechoslovakia, and they lived in the Royal palace until she was 6 years old, when the Soviet Union moved in. Because the President supported the Communists, this family tie would explain why Eddowes thought she had been chosen to destroy Kennedy. But what Eddowes didn't know was that Maria's father was actively anti-Communist. Although opposed to each other politically, the brothers remained friends, the President warning Maria's father that the Soviets were liable to arrest him, and advising him to leave the country. Instead, he joined the underground, making arrangements for Maria to leave the country with the family agent, called Rutter.

They escaped in a railway truck hiding under some corn, crossing the border into Austria. Unfortunately they ended up in the Soviet sector where they were put in a displaced persons camp.

In 1948 Maria was released, apparently through the efforts of a Mrs Capes, who had known her father when he was in England, studying at university. How this was achieved is not known, but Maria was brought to England where she lived as the daughter of Mrs Capes. When she became a teenager she went into modelling and was determined to make it into a successful career.

When only 18 she met Horace 'Hod' Dibden, then aged 57, at the Black Sheep Club in Piccadilly, which he helped run. An expert on English antiques and furniture, he had many friends on the London scene, including Stephen Ward, who he had known since the war; and, interestingly, Michael Eddowes, who had given up his solicitor's practice and become the owner of a chain of restaurants. Hod and Eddowes had known each other for twenty years.

Hod and Maria were married in January 1960. The marriage was conditional on her being allowed to carry on her own life. She appears to have been a highly intelligent, very beautiful young girl, determined to get on in the world, hoping to use Hod's contacts and money to climb the social ladder. In her personal account she claims to have been a virgin at the time, and, in reality, rather turned off by sexual relations. To her, sex was a 'game' designed to shock other people: she took her pleasure watching the reactions of people to situations she had organised. After the honeymoon they were regulars on the night club scene. One particular party in February 1960, given by an American millionaire, Huntingdon Hartford, was a turning point.

Among the guests were Stephen Ward and a more 'sinister' man, Harry Alan Towers, who claimed to be a film producer and owner of a modelling agency. Maria and Towers didn't meet at the party, but Towers must have recognised her: four days later a letter arrived suggesting a meeting at Claridges to discuss some possible modelling work. The letter was actually signed by Tower's mother, Margaret, who Novotny claims had an extraordinary influence over him, and from whom he took his instructions. At the meeting Towers was brisk to the point of rudeness. He told her that he could make her a top television model doing commercials in America. Although she didn't like Towers, she found it difficult to turn down the contract, which offered upwards of $50,000 a year.

Over the next days the contract was sorted out and Maria was introduced to some of Towers' friends, one of whom tried to have sex with her in Paris. Towers, over the next year, made no sexual advances towards Maria but didn't mind pushing his friends on her. She signed to Towers' modelling agency and he gave her a large deposit. The day she left for New York Stephen Ward went to a dinner party with her at which he made some sketches of her. Maria claimed that Ward and Towers knew each other. To Eddowes this provided a link between the Kennedy and Profumo episodes. Hod also thought that Ward and Towers knew each other at this time.

Towers flew ahead a few days earlier and met Maria at what became Kennedy Airport. Almost immediately they were arguing with each other, and Maria became doubly suspicious of him when he told her to sign a hotel register as Maria Novotny. Up til then she had been known as Maria Chapman, Hod's family name. Towers insisted that while she was in America she should use Novotny. What else, she thought, did Towers know of her background?

At first her modelling career went well and they went to the usual round of parties. But it seems that modelling offers were the result of her sleeping with television producers. After two weeks Towers arranged a lunch for her with Peter Lawford, the brother-in-law of President John Kennedy. Towers claimed that it would do her modelling career good if she got to know Kennedy. Maria didn't see the connection at the time; it was only later that she realised that Towers had engineered the meeting for other purposes. On reflection, it spelt blackmail to Maria and Eddowes.

Unknown to her at the time she was scheduled to be the replacement for Simone McQueen, a TV weather forecaster, who had just finished with Kennedy. Lawford took her to parties and she briefly met Kennedy at one and arranged to meet him again. They were more intimate at a party where the singer, Vic Damone, was the host. She was introduced to Kennedy and almost immediately shown into a bedroom where she went to bed with him. They weren't gone very long before there was a commotion in the main room. Damone's Asian girlfriend had made an unsuccessful suicide attempt and had been found in the bathroom with her wrists slashed. The apartment quickly emptied, Kennedy disappearing with a bodyguard and his associates.

The incident was hushed up. The quick departure may have had something to do with the fact that, according to Maria, one of J. Edgar Hoover' s men was known to attend these parties. Word would have quickly reached Hoover who would have no doubt added it to his files on the Kennedy brothers.

Maria continued to see Kennedy and his brother, Robert, though I doubt that there is much truth in the published accounts of her relationship with Robert. Her own account rarely mentions him - or, for that matter, the sensational claims of her involvement with UN officials. The latter appears to have involved Towers' other girls.

At the end of the year Hod arrived in New York to buy antiques. At this time Maria had had enough of Towers. Her modelling career was nowhere in sight. She decided to leave Towers and move into Hod's apartment near the UN building. Towers was extremely angry and determined to make her stay in his flat. But as he was commuting between London and New York at this time, he had little real control over her. She moved in with Hod.

During this period when Towers would later be accused of running a vice-ring at the UN building, he was in constant touch with his mother - and one other person, Leslie Chateris.

King’s Road (Mariella Novotny, Stella Capes, Henrietta Chapman, Christine Keeler, Mandy Rice Davis, Stephen Ward, Horace Dibben):

oh man. Where do they get these pricks? What selection of rocks do you look under to source specimens with these characteristics for the purposes of your insane, disgusting, twisted political games?

Well kids, here’s another one, & one of significance. Mariella Novotny aka Stella Capes aka Henrietta Chapman. High profile honey trap/sexual entrapment…but there is no honey in Mariella’s trap, just pus & shit. A lotta’ Torys dig a dose of pus & shit in their amorous undertakings though, which led to this particular madam/prostitute & somebodies secret agent (the rumours abound – MI5, the Mossad or another omni actor towing multiple evils) being referred to as the Tory’s “chief whip”. Mariella was notorious for her whip wielding & S&M penchant, an aptitude that the public school-scarred mutants that frequent the Tory party, with their shattered developmental miscreance & social/sexual misgrowth, seem to have been queuing up to indulge in. here is a very rare (they really don’t want you to research this woman & her activities & so much on her has been scrubbed/suppressed) video clip of Mariella discussing kompromat/human compromise operations courtesy of Adam Curtis –

Mariella in skank mode.

that precious, lone two minute clip (try & find anything of substance on Novonty on Youtube…shit is a mysterious blackout) has her discussing sexual blackmail of political targets & modelling agencies acting as prostitution rackets without the girls knowledge. Novotny was an associate of Stephen Ward & Kristine Keeler. Keeler was of course the good time girl that got dragged/manipulated into murkier machinations without her understanding or approval that resulted in the Profumo scandal that prompted the defeat of the Tory government of the time. Profumo & Keeler were the super vanilla…way’ way’ way worse stuff was going on & Keelers opprobrium & public persecution in part was to divert attention from these far more sordid affairs. Mariella was involved in plenty of the latter. There are also substantial & numerous allegations that she included satanic ritual/content & sadomasochism in some of her operations/parties. That is not necessarily anything of significance, an idiot in a thelema robe or with a goat skull headdress may just be some dumb cosplay fantasy or additional milage for the purpose of the intended blackmail material (bad enough to be captured bouncing some infamous harlot out of wedlock let alone in a devils suit or whatever). But it could easily be something much more insidious.

Mandy Rice Davis & Christine Keeler.

So Novotny dies in extremely suspicious circumstances in 1983 shortly before the scheduled publishing of a personal memoir she was boasting would tell all about her wealth of filth & blackmail (the Westminster coroner, Dr Paul Knapman, attributed the cause of death to a “misadventure”). The book has never been published. I understand that her property was posthumously ransacked & huge quantities of her possessions & materials vanished forever. A gigantic effort of excising & concealment surrounds this woman. Her total & complete absence of any material on the ubiquitous data behemoth Youtube denotes something more secretive & potent, like a state directive, perhaps pertaining to “official secrecy”? Then again the Adam Curtis lick (it will probably disappear soon)?

a deceased Stephen Ward.

But there is something they could not quite inter with entirety – mad Mariella wrote a book of “fiction” (fact guising as fiction) in 1971 called King’s Road. Many copies were printed with editions issued in 71, 73 & 74 (if not more). Long out of print (who’d of guessed?) I managed to get one. Forgive my ignorance, but I am unaware of the King’s Road’s significance (its a street in London), but it may have been a brothel heavy area? I stumbled on this extract from a review (ripping the gimp a new one) of Woody Allen’s latest memoir that provides telling context as he explains how it was on the King’s Road in the 60’s & how a man – “could stroll on the Kings Road and pick up the most adorable birds in their miniskirts”

Her name is Mariella.

She claims she started the permissive society!

Now a successful and provacative authoress, she tells for the first time the full story of the wild lives of London’s beautiful, turned-on people.”

Horace Dibben & Mariella Novotny.

So it looks like what we have here is a melange of Mariella’s exploits furnished with a few fabulations & the smudging of details. The “fictional” character, Tricesta, seems to be be of close resemblance to Novotny, as are her antics & endeavours, sometimes down to specifics. Its a wash of incest, paedophilia, sexual blackmail, druggings, narcotics, salacity & subterfuge. On occasion, the clarity of accounts are clearly a result of real phenomena (the opening chapter with her temporary incarceration in New York followed by her exfiltration of the country). Apparently, & it seems highly feasible with multiple inroads – Mariella had a dalliance with John F Kennedy. The book prefaces with just such a “fictional” targeting of an incoming American president by the young Tricesta/Novotny.

Peter Rachman.

Back in London, beside fucking her own brother & almost her grandfather (her uncle already having taken her virginity with her consent when she was 14, of which she will later blackmail him for cash to formulate a new business venture), she ends up being blackmailed herself by Edward X, a black power militant in Ladbroke Grove who then presses her to drug & entrap a liberal MP so he can manipulate him for political purposes favourable to black emancipation related struggle. Edward X is based on (or more) Michael X. Michael X (a real life black militant from the same era & area) had worked as an enforcer for Peter Rachman, the infamous & unscrupulous property mogul/slum landlord who operated around the Grove & who dated Christine Keeler in real life (as well as Mandy Rice Davis). Out of context, & without the required research & study of the relating history, this would just be an insane & squalid book by some mad flounce. But once you know who this woman was & some of the activity we know she got up to, it is a different matter entirely, especially when you start cross-referencing the books contents against some her life’s events. You can learn a lot from this insanity. The novels “heroine” also persuades a female colleague to sew a padlock into her snatch & give it’s key to her new lover as some crowning gesture of romantic surrender. The lock/wound then starts to fester. What? Why? This is the mind of Mariella Novotny.

Michael X, Yoko Ono, John Lennon.

Who was this chick? Her background is extremely nebulous & she cavorts with a largely variegated consociation of shadow-shitters, so ascertaining with any accuracy is awkward. It appears fairly safe to ascribe her as a Czechoslovakian, from the loftier tiers of the establishment, of Jewish origin who fled/emigrated to the UK (or was born here as Stella Capes as is suggested by some) & became involved in intelligence work/operations. Much like Robert Maxwell (& too many others), it seems she frequented multivalent angles as an omni-agent (M15/MI6, the KGB & the Mossad, not the Americans its seems). Operations of the venereal dispensation seem to be her calling & she was describe by Christine Keeler in her autobiography as the “notorious” “sex queen hostess of London society” with a penchant for extravagance & sadomasochism. Keeler maintains that, like Jeffery Epstein, she kept a “little black book” that disappeared after her death/murder.

she always had a ‘little black book’ but this wasn’t a euphemism: she had a small black address book which included the names of political leaders in America, Britain, France and other countries other countries that she had been involved with. There was even a diplomatic list – almost like an official one.” – Christine Keeler

Mariella Novotny with husband Hod Dibben.

There are many testifying that she was a Communist agent. It does appear that the USA was the one intelligence agency she was not beholden to. She was also alleged to have been a prostitute in Washington at the Quorum club, where she was first introduced to JFK. Another prostitute there, who was also an associate of Mariella’s was Suzy Chang (also known as Esther Sue Yan Chang & later still as Suzy Diamond). Suzy also had an affair (or whatever you call it) with JFK. The FBI was in a fluster as declassified documents now attest (the Bowtie files) with them investigating “an espionage-prostitution ring operating out of England with American ramifications”.

Mandy Rice Davis.

Mariella married another dodgy fucker called Horace Dibben, an affluent antiques dealer & nightclub owner who almost definitely was an intelligence agency operative of some sort (she was just 18). Apparently he was a crazy mf, one description of him from the era asserts – “Hod Dibben had interests in black magic and had a tremendous appetite for sex, so long as it was perverted enough.

Dibben & Mariella purportedly hosted wild sex parties around London with occult, S&M or satanic themes. The ‘Feast of Peacocks’ & the ‘Man in the Mask’ are attributed.

Davis – Keeler.

Keeler’s Secrets & Lies claims that Mariella died “chocking on her own vomit whilst laying face down on her bed eating jelly at her place in Tonbridge, Kent”. Oh that sounds plausible, I am totally convinced. As stated, the coroner proclaimed it a misadventure & the police said it was a ‘drug overdose’? So a jelly chocked drug overdose bed-misadventure then.

an alternative cover of King’s Road.

Rachman died early of a heart attack. Michael X was controversially extradited to the West Indies where he was hanged. JFK got his wig tossed & his brother Bobby was shot dead. Monroe died early of an ‘overdose’. Stephen Ward reportedly committed suicide by overdose during his trial. Lennon was shot. Yvonne Brooks, another Ward devotee, “killed herself” in 1964. & Mariella chocked on her bed-sheets whilst in the kitchen preparing drugged trifle. Robert Maxwell fell off his yacht. Jeffery Epstein hung himself in his cell. All coincidences I am sure.

Michael X.

Apparently Suzy Chang/Diamond ‘survived’ & was interviewed in the 90’s, but as no real identity can be attributed, the nature of her “existence” is difficult to authenticate. Keeler survived & delivered an extraordinarily insightful & revealing autobiography in 2002 (Secrets and Lies). Mandy Rice Davis moved to Israel, converted to Judaism & opened a nightclub. Hod/Horace Dibben has vanished.

the same mad shit. end it.

Mariella Novotny aka Stella Capes aka Henrietta Chapman, died with an ark of secrets. Profumo & Keeler are a decoy. More attention needs to go on Novotny & Dibben. A lot of bad shit is here & the degree of containment/concealment means that the establishment is scared & that information encircling this character is dangerous to their continued duping of the worlds populace. In her favour, I must state that I have thankfully found zero evidence of Novotny being involved in the sexual abuse of children (the depiction of underage sex with her uncle in the book seems to lean towards Dibben in description, who married her when she was 18 & he was 34 years or so her senior).

Peter Rachman with his wife Audrey.

In a troubling twist of connecting tissues, the Westminster coroner that declared her death a “misadventure” was also one of Princesses Diana’s pathologists. He stood down due to some form of controversy & then appointed non-other than – Lady Elizabeth Butler Sloss! – the same Butler-Sloss that was assigned to Theresa May’s disgraced Historical Child Sexual Abuse public inquiry (cover-up) after the disturbing resignation of the totally inappropriate & dubious Dame Fiona Wolff due to the discovery of her undeclared association to subjects of interest in the inquiry (people accused of sexually abusing minors). Astonishingly, Lady Butler-Sloss was also forced into resignation from the inquiry due to connections that discredited her appointment. Even more sickening, in the year after her removal, she was giving a character reference in court for the defense of another associate, Phillip Chard, who was accused of raping a thirteen year old girl. Despite her vociferous testimony in the defendants favour, he was convicted of child rape. Butler-Sloss then distanced herself. So she went from “representing the victims of abuse” to representing the perpetrator in the space of a year or less. The third head of the inquiry Dame Lowell Goddard (the first appointee that the abuse victims actually supported) abruptly resigned & has never publicly stated the reasons for her rash & unexpected decision to this day. At least she did not choke on trifle.

when Harry met Knapman.

King’s Road, Mariella Novotny, New English Library, 1971, 252 pages.

superb script on Novotny from John Simkin at Spartacus Educational –

who, do you think, you are fooling Mr Proctor?

Novelist, call girl, double agent: how Mariella Novotny was the link between JFK and Profumo (Extracted from The Novotny Papers by Lilian Pizzichini)

In the dying days of the 20th century I was researching the life of my grandfather, Charlie, a con man implicated in the corruption of Flying Squad officers. During his trial at the Old Bailey in 1978, Charlie alleged he had been set up by a mysterious blonde called Mariella Novotny, codenamed Henry. In court, he claimed: “She is the woman who arranged for the war minister Mr Profumo to be dropped from the cabinet. She gave evidence to the Lord Denning inquiry but that evidence never appeared.”

The judge told him to stand down and stop being silly. A few days later, just as things were beginning to look lively, and names were about to be divulged, Charlie died.

I was intrigued by the idea of Mariella – this shadowy figure, 4ft 7in in bare feet, with a Fabergé lorgnette to make up for her short sight – stalking London’s underworld on the trail of villains and bent coppers. I looked her up, and uncovered the story of a very strange woman – some of this strangeness invented, to heighten her appeal, but most of it tragically very real. Mariella was a 20th-century call girl who pursued literary fame and political notoriety, and who ended her days an agent provocateur, before dying in 1983, on her 42nd birthday, of an overdose.

By the time she was 19, this self-appointed Queen of London’s Permissive Society had already made headlines on both sides of the Atlantic. The first time was as a wayward minor in a case of white-slave trafficking in New York and Washington, featuring the most powerful man in the world, the president-elect John F Kennedy, in December 1960.

“JFK was simply called the Senator,” wrote Mariella. “It seemed quite natural to be taken aside for a quiet talk. He talked about England briefly, but locked the door and undressed as he chatted.” She was believed to be part of a vice ring set up by an alleged communist agent, Harry Alan Towers, who was also a well-known British film producer. FBI officers called it “The Bow-tie Case” in this guise, Mariella makes a cameo in Javier Marías’s 2016 novel Thus Bad Begins.

Did Mariella really play nurse and patient with JFK while reporting to the Soviet Union? The evidence suggests she did, the other “nurse” being an international call girl, the Chinese-born Suzy Chang. No wonder J Edgar Hoover was in a lather. When the ring was bust, Towers escaped to Moscow. Mariella was kept as chief witness in his trial: “Confident, pretty, with a sense of humour. she looked like a model, not like a whore. she made no great denial of the charges,” was the assistant district attorney’s impression. On May 31 1961, Mariella made her own escape, aboard the Queen Mary. She ate her meals at the captain’s table under the supervision of a CIA agent, who had given her the ticket in the first place. They just wanted her to shut up. But two years later, the young “Monroe lookalike” was receiving rave reviews for a major part in another sex scandal with implications for national security: the Profumo affair.

Mariella’s husband, Horace “Hod” Dibben, was a close friend of Stephen Ward, the osteopath and high society pander at the heart of the Profumo scandal. Hod, who was 56 when he married the 18-year-old Mariella in January 1960, was well known on the orgy circuit that Ward frequented. He dealt in antiques and rubbed shoulders with American millionaires such as Huntingdon Hartford, the A&P supermarket heir, and the movie star Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Hod also had a hand in running the notorious London nightclubs the Black Sheep and Esmeralda’s Barn – the Kray twins’ entry into high society.

Ward, according to Christine Keeler, was fascinated by Mariella. He had never met a girl like her. Unlike his provincial popsies, Mariella had intellectual leanings, an inscrutable air, a haughty bearing and a mysteriously “Eurasian” appearance, with slanting eyes.

And she wasn’t just a pretty face. She spoke of art and antiques she had flawless taste and manners. Her bedtime reading was Bertrand Russell. She told exotic stories about a runaway communist and a fairy-tale castle in Prague, where her childhood was spent. In the former territories of the Austro-Hungarian empire, in the aftermath of war, her portrait, she claimed, was “engraved on the nation’s banknotes, and [her] birthday declared the Czechoslovakian National Day of celebration”. It was hard to remember she was born in Sheffield – which was exactly what she wanted.

Her name was actually Stella Marie Capes. She claimed to be the daughter of a Czech airman and niece to the communist Czech president, but the only thing that is certain is that her mother was a shorthand typist from Coventry. When Mariella was a hat-check girl at the Pigalle Club in Piccadilly in 1959, she told a reporter that her mother had taken her to join her father shortly after the end of the Second World War. At this point Mr Novotny was building up the family estates from his palatial home in Prague. Every day was Christmas, she said, with velvet dresses, parties and riding horses. With the Soviet invasion, Mariella’s uncle, who was a communist, told his anti-communist brother to take his family back to England.

It is possible that there is a grain of truth in this: perhaps she was in Czechoslovakia in 1948. But it is also easy to understand how a lonely girl born to a single mother in a cash-strapped, northern city would invent far-fetched stories. Somehow Mariella was separated from her parents, and washed up in a displaced person’s camp outside Vienna, where she witnessed war crimes – including rape. “My memory is seared by brutal experiences as a child in refugee camps,” she said.

Back in England, a chubby-cheeked 16-year-old Mariella made her debut as a topless dancer at the Windmill Theatre in Soho. Soon she was waitressing at Hod’s nightclub, The Black Sheep (which catered to “black sheep from the titled families, because they are the rarest”) but she was so short-sighted that she spilled the goulash, and was sacked. Hod saw her crying, took pity, and proposed. Her engagement ring was a 200-year-old antique, diamond and sapphire. David Bailey was the photographer at the wedding. The cake had 18 tiers coated in marzipan icing, one for each year of her life. It proved to be stuffed with sawdust.

With Hod as Pygmalion, Mariella developed an appetite for extreme and intricate acts of sadism. “The bizarre became normal for me,” she said. She called herself “the Government’s chief whip”. The gambler Lord Lucan and the flying ace and SOE operative Count Manfred Beckett Czernin were just a few who indulged their curiosity.

Lord Astor, too, was a regular weekend visitor to Hod’s 16th-century Sussex mansion, and the couple were often asked back to Cliveden, Astor’s estate, where John Profumo, the war minister, met Christine Keeler, his nemesis. Mariella said she “did not take to” Profumo when Ward’s friend, Eugene Ivanov – the Soviet naval attaché who was also sleeping with Keeler – mentioned Mariella’s missing Czech father, and hinted that he could assist in arranging a visa to Prague, she realised she “was being set up”. She later wrote that Ivanov “was known for being able to put information on Khruschev’s desk 20 minutes after receiving it”.

In December 1961, Mariella was the hostess of the notorious Man in the Mask orgy – later fictionalised in the film Scandal, with Britt Ekland as Mariella. A clutch of MPs, TV personalities and embassy officials arrived at her flat in Hyde Park Square, to be greeted by Stephen Ward, wearing just a sock. Everyone else was naked. There was a man strapped between two wooden pillars in front of the fireplace, wearing nothing but a masonic apron and leather mask. “A flail or whip was in front of his naked figure. As each guest arrived they gave him one stroke, then left the man to join the party. When he was released before dining, he was ordered to remain beneath the long table, out of sight.” Mariella was strong on detail but she refused to divulge the identity of the man in the mask – not even in her diaries, let alone for newspapers eager to hear her account.

Mandy Rice-Davies, who arrived later with Keeler, spotted Mariella in bed with six men. “I didn’t know where to look. After all, I was only 17, even if I had been around. I remember spotting this plate of tangerines – they were a rarity in winter in those days – and I attacked those tangerines and some chocolates until I felt sick.”

Lord Denning, when he later came to investigate Profumo, was horror-struck by Mariella and Hod. He wanted to hand-deliver his invitation to them to appear before his inquiry, but was talked out of it by his private secretary, Thomas Critchley, who admitted that his own “curiosity to meet them was immense”. As Critchley put it in his diary: “Hod Dibben was allegedly a man of fathomless depravity in whose hands Stephen Ward was clay. in addition to his interests in black magic he had a tremendous appetite for sex, so long as it was perverted enough.”

The Novotny Papers

It is almost impossible to summarise the extraordinary life of Mariella Novotny in a few paragraphs. In 1961 she was an underage hooker engaging in sexual relations with President John F. Kennedy, the most powerful man in the world. She was believed to be part of a vice ring set up by an alleged Communist agent who was also a well-known British film producer. FBI officers called their investigation ‘The Bow-Tie Case’. Two years later the young ‘Monroe lookalike’ played a major part in another sex scandal with implications for national security: the Profumo Affair. Mariella was the hostess of the Man in the Mask party. She was a close friend of Stephen Ward, the osteopath and pander to high society, another putative whistle-blower who died in suspicious circumstances. In the late 1960s, she gave birth to the illegitimate child of Eddie Chapman (Agent Zigzag), England’s most successful wartime double agent. Between 1975 and 1978 she was working undercover for Operation Countryman, an investigation into police corruption in the Flying Squad. Her chief target was the author’s grandfather, Charlie Taylor, a London conman who had high-ranking officers in his deep pockets. Mariella brought them all down.

Mariella was found dead with her face in a bowl of milk pudding in February 1983. She was in the process of writing her memoirs – in her own words, ‘It’s dynamite!’ Christine Keeler said, ‘I think it was murder … most probably by the CIA.’ In the author’s own words, ‘This is a life that is bigger than the woman who led it. She embodies the emergence of a radical sexual politics.’

Valerie Hobson

Valerie Hobson was the daughter of a Royal Navy captain whose love of alcohol and gambling meant that the family was frequently very poor.

Valerie appear in such films as Kind Hearts And Coronets with Alec Guinness, David Lean's 1946 Great Expectations and Blanche Fury with Stewart Granger.

Sir Anthony Havelock-Allan

In 1939, aged 21, she married the film producer Sir Anthony Havelock-Allan , who was 14 years her senior.

Their son, Simon, who was born in 1944, had Down's syndrome.

Simon was put into a home for children with learning disabilities.

The women in Sir Anthony's life included Grace Kelly (later Princess Grace of Monaco) and actress Kay Kendall.

Valerie's lovers included a Marquess, a leading member of the Sainsbury grocery family and John Profumo.

In 1952 Valerie divorced Anthony Havelock-Allan (1904) and in 1954, she married John Profumo (1915), a top politician of Italian descent.

Profumo was a Harrow-educated war hero and multi-millionaire.

Profumo had affairs with a number of women.

In the early 1930s, 'Jack' Profumo had a relationship with a German model, Gisela Winegard, who subsequently worked for German intelligence in Paris. Secret Service papers state Profumo also wrote to Winegard while he was an MP.[3]

There are well known spy services such as the CIA, MI6 and the KGB.

But, there appears to be a super-group that links all of the above and that is more powerful than all of the above.

Or perhaps there are several powerful 'factions' involved.

1. "Twenty-five minutes before the assassination of JFK someone phoned the Cambridge Evening News in the UK warning of 'big news' and suggesting the paper called the US embassy in London.

"When this story emerged it was claimed the phone-call was anonymous.

"However, later that day a CIA officer based in London sent a telegram to their office in Washington claimed 'some similar phone-calls of strangely coincidental nature previous received in this country over past year, particularly in connection with the Dr Ward’s case.'"

4. On August 14, 1975, during a press conference at the Hyatt House in Birmingham, Alabama, Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger was asked by a reporter:

"Mr. Secretary, we received a report that a Colonel General Michael Goleniewski, who was a Polish Army intelligence officer in World War II, had identified a list of KGB and GRU agents and officers who have since been arrested, tried and convicted.

"The General. also identified you, Mr. Kissinger, as having worked for a Soviet intelligence network -- code name ODRA -- headquartered in Germany during World War II, at the same time you were a U.S. Army counter-interrogator and instructor in a military intelligence school. . .

"Is this true? And, if not, how do you explain your name being on General Goleniewski's list?"

Harry Alan Towers

5. British born Harry Alan Towers (1920-2009) made movies. ( Harry Alan Towers obituary Film The Guardian )

Towers was a friend of Stephen Ward, who provided girls to top people.

Ward introduced Towers to Mariella Novotny.

The FBI accused Towers of transporting Novotny from Britain to New York for the purpose of prostitution.

According to a statement made by Novotny to the FBI, Towers was a Soviet agent whose job was to blackmail top people.

In 1961 Towers jumped bail and returned to Britain. The FBI case against Towers and Novotny was mysteriously dropped.

Back in London, Novotny continued to organise sex parties for top people.

Mariella Novotny

Towers was part of an MI5/CIA honeytrap operation.

Towers was rewarded for the help he gave MI5/CIA.

At one time, Towers was programme director for British Forces radio.

According to Anthony Summers, Towers was by 1960 "a prosperous film producer working, out of Hollywood and Toronto".

Towers was a regular visitor to London and at a party held by American millionaire Huntington Hartford he was introduced by Stephen Ward to Mariella Novotny.

In 1961 Novotny told the FBI that: "Towers took me to the Great Northern Hotel. I entertained prostitution dates regularly . Towers was present when prostitution acts were committed. "

Novotny told the FBI that Towers was a Soviet agent and that the Soviets wanted information in order to blackmail top people.

The people attending Novotny's sex parties in London included British politicians such as John Profumo and Ernest Marples and foreign leaders such as Willy Brandt and Ayub Khan.

In 1963, J. Edgar Hoover produced a memo on the Profumo Scandal:

For information. John Profumo was British Minister of War until his recent resignation following disclosure of his relations with Christine Keeler.

Stephen Ward, London osteopath, has been arrested in London charged with living on the earnings of Keeler and Marilyn Rice-Davies, prostitutes.

Ward's operations reportedly part of a large vice ring involving many people including many prominent people in the U.S. and England including other Ministers of British Cabinet not yet identified.

Other individuals involved include Yevgeny Ivanov, aka Eugene Ivanov, former Soviet Naval Attache, London, who patronised Keeler and who reportedly requested Keeler to obtain information from Profumo

Thomas J. Corbally, U.S. citizen engaged in business in Britain, who reportedly gave wild parties in his flat

Michael H. B. Eddowes, British attorney for Keeler, now in the U.S. representing her interests re sale of her story to publications

Michael Eddowes

Horace Dibben, British citizen, in whose residence sex orgies were held is husband of Maria Novotny

Maria Novotny is prostitute who operated in NYC, was arrested on March three, one nine six one, and was victim in white slave case involving her procurer, Alan Towers. She fled to England and has participated in orgies at Ward residence. Alan Towers was in NYC for two years prior to his arrest in above white slave case. He jumped bail and is now a bureau fugitive.

Novotny alleges Towers was a Soviet agent and that Soviets wanted information for purposes of compromise of prominent individuals

Lord Astor of England on whose Cliveden Estate sex orgies reportedly occurred: it was here that Profumo first met Keeler

Douglas Fairbanks, Jnr, movie actor Earl Felton, American screen writer and many others also involved.

This was an MI5/CIA honeytrap operation.

Both Thomas J. Corbally and Earl Felton were both CIA informants.

Towers was clearly rewarded for the help he gave MI5/CIA.

Novotny marries Horace Dibden

7. An article about Towers and Novotny that appeared in Lobster Magazine by Stephen Dorrel in November 1983:

Maria (Mariella) Stella Novotny was born in 1941 in Prague.

Her father was the brother of the pro-Communist President of Czechoslovakia.

She lived in the Royal palace until she was 6 years old.

Maria Novotny's father was in the anti-Communist underground.

Maria escaped from Czechoslovakia, with a family friend, but ended up in a camp for displaced persons in the Soviet sector of Austria.

In 1948 Maria was released, apparently through the efforts of a Mrs Capes, who had known her father when he was studying in England.

Maria was brought to England where she lived as the daughter of Mrs Capes.

She became a teenage model and met Horace Dibden, aged 57, at his Black Sheep Club in Piccadilly. They got married.

Dibden was a friend of both Stephen Ward and Michael Eddowes.

In 1960, at a party given by an American millionaire, Huntingdon Hartford, Maria met Harry Alan Towers, and went to work for his modeling agency.

In New York, Maria found that modelling offers required sleeping with television producers.

Towers arranged a lunch for her with Peter Lawford, the brother-in-law of President John Kennedy.

She was introduced to Kennedy and almost immediately shown into a bedroom where she went to bed with him.

Reportedly, Maria also got to know Robert Kennedy and certain UN officials.

Towers would later be accused of running a vice-ring at the UN building.

8. More pieces of the jigsaw.

Horace Dibben and Mariella Novotny ( Mariella Novotny )

Mariella Novotny (aka Stella Capes) was a high-class prostitute 'controlled by Stephen Ward in London'. ( Mariella Novotny )

"Mariella was part Jewish, she was actually quiet proud of that and spoke Hebrew." ( NightHawk: The Czech Night Hawk )

J F Kennedy reportedly slept with Novotny.

Stephen Ward, an osteopath whose patients included Winston Churchill, Duncan Sandys, Ava Gardner, Mary Martin and Mel Ferrer. His friends included Prince Philip. His MI5 controller was said to be Keith Wagstaffe . After the Cuban Missile Crisis Ward told Christine Keeler that he believed John F. Kennedy would be assassinated. He told her and Eugene Ivanov : "A man like John Kennedy will not be allowed to stay in such an important position of power in the world, I assure you of that."

Steven Ward reportedly worked for the British security service MI5.

From 1956-65, MI5 was run by Sir Roger Hollis, who was allegedly a Soviet spy.

Soviet intelligence, at that time, shared intelligence with Israel. ( aangirfan: ANGLETON AND MOSSAD USS LIBERTY PHILBY KISSINGER )

Reportedly, Hollis and Ward were part of a spy ring with Sir Anthony Blunt .

Willy Brandt and Ayub Khan are reported to have attended Novotny's parties. ( Mariella Novotny )

In 1978 Novotny announced that she had started work on her autobiography which would include details of her work for MI5. ( Mariella Novotny )

She claimed that her book would include details of a "plot to discredit Jack Kennedy".

Mariella Novotny was found dead in her bed in February 1983.

According to Stephen Dorrel : "Shortly after her death her house was burgled and all her files and large day-to-day diaries from the early sixties to the seventies were stolen." ( Mariella Novotny )

Several of the other girls died unexpectedly young over the next few years. ( PROFUMO, John - Spy School Bios )

In her autobiography, Mandy (1980) Mandy Rice-Davies described what happened when she arrived at Novotny's party in Bayswater: "The door was opened by Stephen (Ward) - naked except for his socks.

"All the men were naked, the women naked except for wisps of clothing like suspender belts and stockings.

"I recognised our host and hostess, Mariella Novotny and her husband Horace Dibbins, and unfortunately I recognised too a fair number of other faces as belonging to people so famous you could not fail to recognise them: a Harley Street gynaecologist, several politicians, including a Cabinet minister of the day, now dead, who, Stephen told us with great glee, had served dinner of roast peacock wearing nothing but a mask and a bow tie instead of a fig leaf."

According to Anonymous ( Scandalous Women: Christine Keeler and the Profumo Affair ): "Ronna Ricardo, who I was close to for several years (she was lesbian but liked a cuddle now and again) told me a few things about ritual masonic abuse of children, involving many top people.

"She was involved in supplying young girls to 'the man in the mask' but drew the line at supplying girls under 15-16, he preferred 12 and under. Others found those girls for him.

"She was involved with Ward in trying to get a camera in to take photos of the abuses, but 'the masks' security was too good and the cameras too bulky.

"She knew of one 10 year-old girl who disappeared after being taken to hospital by the police. Just vanished.

"There were rumours of an orphanage in Ireland (Ronna had contacts in the IRA) where men she named for me filmed children being abused by people specially chosen for blackmail - as they were being slowly strangled to death by Anthony Blunt. Snuff-movies."

John Profumo

John Profumo was the UK's Secretary of State for War.

Lord Astor was a man who held sexy parties at Cliveden, his stately home.

Stephen Ward was the osteopath and procurer of girls for top people.

One of Ward's friends was Christine Keeler.

Yevgeny Ivanov was a Russian naval officer and 'spy'.

Christine Keeler met John Profumo at Cliveden in 1961.

Christine had an affair with both Profumo and the Russian spy, Ivanov.

One night, a West Indian called Johnny Edgecombe arrived at Stephen Ward’s house and began shooting at the door.

Eventually, Stephen Ward was arrested and he then died in mysterious circumstances.

According to Philip Knightley : "By coincidence, in the tape recordings which Christine Keeler made with her manager, Robin Drury, Keeler says that John Lewis, Ward's bitter enemy, had offered her 㿊,000 for information leading to Ward's conviction and the bringing down of the Conservative Government."

Reportedly, Dr Stephen Ward had an MI5 controller, Keith Wagstaffe.

Reportedly, Sir Colin Coote, Editor of the Daily Telegraph and a former officer in MI6, was responsible for introducing Ward to Ivanov 'at the behest of his old service', ( PROFUMO, John - Spy School Bios .)

Reportedly, J. Edgar Hoover was aware that 'the Ward circle included many extremely well known Americans and girls such as Suzy Chang and Mariella Novotny who had been bedded by President John F. Kennedy.'

Harold Wilson

Who gained from the Profumo Affair?

Harold Wilson became UK Prime Minister.

Anatoli Golitsin , a spy who defected from the KGB, claimed that Hugh Gaitskell was murdered in 1963 so that Harold Wilson, a 'KGB agent', could become leader of the Labour Party.

Was Wilson working for Russia or Israel?

Harold Wilson was President of the Board of Trade from 1947-51. The few people who could get permission from the Board of Trade to import heavily rationed raw materials or finished goods were in a good position to become vastly rich. Among the lucky few who got licenses were Montague Meyer, Joe Kagan and Rudy Sternberg . Kagan and Sternberg later became peers. Meyer gave Wilson a consultancy which took him on frequent trips to Moscow and Eastern Europe.

After the 'mysterious' death of Hugh Gaitskell, Wilson became Labour leader and eventually Prime Minister. Harold Wilson's 'private office' was funded in secret by a wealthy group which included Lord Goodman , Sir Samuel Fisher , and Rudy Sternberg.

In the 1970's, Private Eye began to receive information of a possible link between Wilson and the Israeli secret service and the KGB. In connection with alleged plots, the names of various people were handed to Private Eye.

Labour MP Ian Mikardo had at one time partnered Leslie Paisner in a business that traded with East Germany. Mikardo's pair in the House of Commons was Barnaby Drayson who worked for Rudy Sternberg, as did Wilfred Owen MP who had resigned after being revealed as a spy for Czechoslovakia. Montague Meyer, it turned out, was the man who had bought up much of the timber felled in Tanganyika during Labour's ill-fated groundnut scheme.

Then there was Labour MP Edward Short 'who had been in the habit of receiving bundles of banknotes from T Dan Smith', the city boss of Newcastle and one time partner of Eric Levine .

Kagan was a frequent visitor to Downing Street. He was also on friendly terms with the station chief of the Russian KGB. After being questioneded by the police about tax and currency offences he eventually 'fled' to Israel, where perhaps his real allegiance lay.

Sir Rudy Sternberg was also under investigation by the security services.

What may have stopped Private Eye from finally getting at the truth was the intervention of the Jewish businessman James Goldsmith , a friend of PM Wilson's personal secretary, Marcia Williams. Marcia was also a friend of Kagan. Private Eye had mistakenly claimed that Goldsmith had been present at a lunch given by John Aspinall, on the day after the disappearance of Lord Lucan. Goldsmith began criminal libel proceedings against Private Eye.

Patrick Marnham , in his brilliant book "Trail of Havoc: In the Steps of Lord Lucan", writes that Goldsmith was "effectively silencing the only newspaper which migh t have made headway with the . allegations."

Goldsmith later became a lord. Sir Joseph Kagan was later imprisoned.

But the possible links between Labour and Israel's secret service may not have ended with Wilson. Private Eye began to take an interest in Robert Maxwell , the chief fund raiser for Labour. Maxwell received a peerage, mysteriously disappeared, and 'his body' was buried with great honour in Israel. It was assumed by many that he was a top Israeli spy.

And what of Tony Blair. Private Eye has pointed out that Blair's chief fund raiser is Lord Levy , a man with strong links to Israel. Blair's chief foreign policy adviser was Sir David Manning .

"Blunt and F. B. I Chief J. Edgar Hoover both subscribed to the theory that the Jewish underground, the 'Sanyanim' , supported Russia through World War two.

"Blunts colleague and fellow traitor Kim Philby actually married Litzi Friedman , a Jewish underground runner for Soviet Intelligence. "

While undergoing a cataract operation, Blunt "blurted out to the surgeon accusations about the comedy actor Charlie Chaplin being blackmailed into being a top A.I.P (agent in place) for the Jewish underground, under threat of exposure about his tastes in underage girls, his recruitment by Lord Victor Rothschild , of his own involvement with both the Russians, and of Blunt being 'turned on sexually' by the shiny boots, and fur busbies that Guardsmen wore.

"Blunt would insist that the mysterious death in 1941 of the king’s brother, the Duke of Kent , was a murder on Churchill’s orders, as he was trying to make peace. Blunt was unusually angry over this murder.

"It was long rumoured that the unusual resemblance between Blunt and Edward VIII was because they were half brothers."

Christeen Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies

In Israel, female spies are called "Swallows" and males who are trained to compromise women or other men are called "Ravens." ( )

Do the security services run brothels?

Reportedly, in the 1950s and 1960s, MI5 ran a brothel in Church Street in Kensington for the use of visiting dignitaries, diplomats and intelligence officers.Young female or male company could also be supplied directly to a VIP's hotel bedroom. ( PROFUMO, John - Spy School Bios )

London, JFK and Profumo

As fans of conspiracy theories know, there is always a connection if you look hard enough, and the one between JFK and the Profumo Scandal is particularly intriguing.

The connection is called Mariella, or Maria, Novotny. Different sources give her different places of birth – London, Sheffield, Prague – but most agree that she was really called Stella Capes. She almost certainly wasn’t the niece of former Czech President Antonin Novotny as she claimed, nor had she spent four years in a Soviet camp. But what’s undeniable is that she lived quite the life.

It was Novotny who hosted the infamous Man In The Mask orgy in an apartment in Hyde Park Square in December 1961, where various members of high society consorted with glamorous woman such as Mandy Rice-Davies and Christine Keeler. Novotny, who called the party The Feast of Peacocks after what had been served for dinner (she also cooked badger), spent much of the evening wearing a corset in bed with a whip and six men. Stephen Ward, the mysterious society osteopath, was there wearing socks and nothing else. Everybody else – among them actors, MPs and judges – was naked except for a man wearing a gimp mask, who was tied between two pillars and whipped by everybody on entry. There has been much speculation as to his identity, with names including minor royalty and Cabinet Ministers, but he has never been named.

The Feast Of The Peacocks became public knowledge after featuring in Lord Denning’s 1963 report into the security implications of the Profumo Scandal. This was written in the wake of Conservative Minister John Profumo’s resignation from the Cabinet following revelations regarding his relationship with Keeler and Keeler’s relationship with Soviet naval attach Eugene Ivanov.

This was not the first political scandal Novotny was at the centre of. Wherever she was born, she had moved to London in 1958 to become a model, and was soon performing as a topless dancer in Soho.

In 1960, she married. Her husband, Horace ‘Hod’ Dibben was in his 50s and moved in serious company. He ran the Black Sheep Club in Piccadilly and knew both the Duke of Kent and the Krays. He was a sado-masochist and a friend of Stephen Ward. Through Hod, Novotny met Harry Towers, a mysterious and sinister figure, who persuaded her to go to New York for some modelling work.

Novotny was soon operating as a prostitute in New York, with Towers as her pimp. Before long Towers had introduced her to Peter Lawford, the film star and John F Kennedy’s brother-in-law whose main responsibility was to find willing women for the insatiable President. Novotny was soon sleeping with JFK. On one occasion she and fellow prostitute Suzy Chang were asked to dress as nurses, with JFK the patient.

In May 1961, Novotny was deported from the US, returning to London on the Queen Mary where she began hosting her memorable parties. Guests are said to include everybody from Bobby Moore to Felix Topolski. She was also introduced by Ward to both Ivanov and Profumo before Keeler, but nothing developed from this. Novotny believed she had been used to ‘get’ JFK and was wary of the same thing happening again. Keeler was not so smart.

When the Profumo Scandal broke, JFK was said to be fascinated by it, demanding to be kept informed of ongoing events, at least in part because of his own tenuous connection. Robert McNamara, the US Defence Secretary, knew all about the President’s dalliances with this prostitute who claimed to be from Eastern Europe and said ‘he felt like he was sitting on a bomb’. On June 23, one American newspaper even hinted at the President’s involvement, until his brother Robert Kennedy forcefully intervened and the story was dropped. Nobody picked it up and the President took his secret to the grave.

What to make of this? Some believe the fact Novotny was connected to JFK and Profumo was no coincidence and here you could go down a rabbit warren of theories and counter-accusations. One argument is that Novotny was part of a honey trap operation, run by Lyndon Johnson’s office by Towers and Ward with the assistance of the sex-obsessed FBI, aimed at blackmailing powerful men in Britain and America. Others claim it was a KGB sting – Novotny claimed Czech heritage and Chang was Chinese – and Towers was using his women to try to infiltrate the United Nations. Still others say Ward and Towers were working for MI5 to entrap Ivanov. Conspiracy journal Lobster has more. This stuff could drive you insane.

Novotny later worked for the police in same capacity, and was used to help bring down gangster Charles Taylor. She died of an overdose in 1983. Some, including Christine Keeler, claim it was murder. Novotny had attempted to write a book about her life shortly before her death, but mysterious things kept happening to her and the ghostwriter, causing them to nervously end the project. After her death, her house was burgled and her diaries disappeared.

She did write a book in 1971. It is a fictionalised account of her adventures called King’s Road and one of the worst books I’ve ever read. You can get it on Amazon for 14p.

New Spy City: NYC’s long history of espionage and spy scandals

Also from Berlin, London and the Confederate States of America.

They may have been passionate about a cause, or just out for a payday, but for nearly 250 years, spies like them have arrived in New York with two things in common: A secret agenda, and a plot to make the city part of it.

“Spy Sites of New York City,” by H. Keith Melton and Robert Wallace, is a history of tristate espionage. A walking-tour of deception, too, as the book's many maps and photographs lets readers follow in the agents’ felonious footsteps.

Written with Henry R. Schlesinger, this American tale begins even before America, with revolutionary spies Nathan Hale and Benedict Arnold. Although on opposite sides of the conflict, neither man’s story ended well.

The Declaration of Independence was barely two months old when Hale, 21, started spying. Sadly, the Yale grad wasn’t very good. Tricked into confessing by a British officer in Manhattan, he was hanged almost immediately, leaving just enough time for “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”

Benedict Arnold was somewhat luckier. An American general, he agreed to hand over West Point to the British for cash and a job. The plot fell apart when his English boss, Maj. John André, was caught behind U.S. lines.

Although the slippery Arnold eluded capture, André’s conviction for espionage was immediate. He was hung in Tappan, in 1780.

André’s cool bravery impressed even his captors. “Never perhaps did any man suffer death with more justice, or deserve it less,” eulogized Alexander Hamilton.

Arnold didn’t escape history’s verdict, though. His name became synonymous with disloyalty. He died in London in 1801, loathed even there.

Each war after the Revolution meant new spies in New York.

Although the Civil War’s bloodiest violence never touched the five boroughs, it left its mark. The Grapevine Tavern, once at 11th St. and Sixth Ave., was a notorious hangout for Union officers and Confederate spies, and a center for gossip. Those who wanted to protect their source would say only, “I heard it through the Grapevine.”

The city also served as the target of a terrorist attack in 1864, when Confederate agents tried burning down 20 Manhattan buildings, including P.T. Barnum’s American Museum. They didn’t know there was a double-agent among them, however. Authorities were alerted, and the unsuccessful arsonists fled, although one, Robert Cobb Kennedy, was caught in far-off Detroit.

He was hanged in 1865, at the foot of what is now the Brooklyn side of the Verrazzano Bridge.

The outbreak of World War I brought foreign agents to the area. The most successful may have been the team of saboteurs led by Capt. Franz von Rintelen, who blew up a depot at New Jersey’s Black Tom Island in 1916, destroying 2 million pounds of munitions. The shock waves popped rivets out of the Statue of Liberty.

Rintelen was eventually caught and served three years in federal prison, but many of his accomplices disappeared. Black Tom Island is now part of Liberty State Park, where a small plaque memorializes the attack.

A quarter of a century later, America headed toward another war with Germany, and another generation of spies arrived.

The German American Bund, a pro-Nazi group, set up headquarters at 178 E. 85th St. Members were often recruited to spy for the Reich, while their children shouted “Heil Hitler!” at Camp Siegfried, out on Yaphank, Long Island. Both organizations were shuttered once war was declared.

The camp must have worked well, though. In 1942, German subs landed four would-be saboteurs on the shores of Montauk, and another four near Jacksonville, Fla. Half the men were former Camp Siegfried campers.

Unluckily for the New York crew, the Coast Guard spotted them before they even had time to ditch their German uniforms. Panicking, they fled to Manhattan, where they spent the night hitting the jazz clubs on 52nd St.

The next day, one of them, George Dasch, gave himself up. The rest were quickly arrested. Dasch and cooperating cohort Ernest Burger were imprisoned and sent back to Berlin after the war. The other six got the electric chair.

The Cold War brought a new kind of enemy agent. Dedicated Communists, they nonetheless adapted to capitalism with remarkable ease. Many found cover running successful businesses – a travel agency, a jewelry store, even a furrier’s. Posh hotels like the Waldorf provided safe spaces for meetings.

American recruits were drawn from true believers. Julius Rosenberg was living on the Lower East Side and already a Communist when he was turned by a Soviet intelligence officer in 1942. Two years later, Julius convinced his wife, Ethel, to join. Later, Julius would bring in his brother-in-law David Greenglass.

The men, both of whom had worked on government projects, gave the Soviets critical details of the atomic bomb and a new anti-aircraft missile. In 1950, with the U.S. government closing in, the Soviets told the Americans to flee to Mexico. Instead, Greenglass and his wife went to the Catskills and looked for a lawyer.

Eventually cooperating with the police, Greenglass identified Julius as a spy, although he consistently denied his sister was involved. Both Rosenbergs were arrested anyway, and in 1953, given the electric chair. Greenglass served nearly 10 years and then moved to Queens. He died in 2008.

More recently, the Russians have had better luck luring people with sex or money than promises of revolution.

One favorite ploy is the “honey trap.” It involves a young woman happy to work for Moscow, and skilled at convincing an old fool she’s really interested in him, not the files in his briefcase. Mariella Novotny, who reportedly partied with President John F. Kennedy, was one of the most successful seducers.

Her fellow party girl Christine Keeler wasn’t surprised.

“She was a siren, a sexual athlete of Olympic proportions,” the showgirl enthused. “She knew all the strange pleasures that were wanted and could deliver.”

Eventually busted by Manhattan’s vice squad, Novotny returned to England, where her cozy friendships with Communist agents and Western politicians helped bring down the government of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. Interestingly, the little black book she kept was confiscated by the FBI and never seen again.

These days, though, money remains the dull motive behind most American treason.

XHP Steel – History and Properties

Thanks to John Bates, Kenny Lazarus, Robert Abel, and Matt Danielson for becoming Knife Steel Nerds Patreon supporters! I have some exclusive Patreon supporter content this week. Pete of the Cedric and Ada Youtube channel posted this past week a video summarizing his rope cut tests on 14 Spyderco Mule knives in different steels. This is a fun test because all of the knives are nearly identical and only the steel and heat treatment is different, so it is a better steel comparison than some of the others between different knives. I already have a previous article where I compared CATRA testing to rope cutting so this new test didn’t warrant a whole new article, but I offered an analysis of his test for Patreon.

440XH and CTS-XHP Steel

XHP is a powder metallurgy steel produced by Carpenter Technology with the following composition, along with the similar 440C and D2 steels:

XHP started out as a steel named 440XH which was patented in 1994 [1] by Paul Novotny, Thomas McCaffrey, and Raymond Hemphill. XHP was originally produced as a conventionally cast “wrought” steel rather than as a powder mteallurgy steel. The patent and other development documents by Carpenter talk about 440XH as a steel designed to combine the best properties of D2 and 440C. 440C has good corrosion resistance but the max hardness is a bit low. D2 has excellent hardness but its combination of 1.5% carbon and 12% chromium does not have sufficient corrosion resistance to be stainless despite the 12% chromium. Learn why D2 isn’t stainless in this article. Adding 0.5% carbon and a small vanadium addition to 440C makes 44XH. Or adding 4% chromium to D2. So 440XH, which is now called XHP, can be seen as either a high hardness 440C or a high corrosion resistance D2.

The researchers looked at a range of alloy combinations by producing 17 pound ingots in the laboratory which were then forged and tested [2]. They focused on hardness and corrosion resistance to find the optimal composition for the desired properties. Hardness was tested “as-quenched” after austenitizing at a range of temperatures from 1750-2000°F. The corrosion resistance of each steel was tested by machining a cone specimen and heat treating it by austenitizing at 25 minutes and air cooled. The specimens were then tested in a 95% relative humidity environment at 95°F for 1-200 hours. The samples were then rated for the percentage of the surface with visible rust. Results of the hardness and corrosion resistance tests are shown below:

Alloy codes 88, 90, 89, and 84 met the hardness target, though 90 and 84 had worse corrosion resistance than D2, and alloy 88 was only marginally better than D2. Alloy 91 had similar or superior corrosion resistance to 440C but did not meet the hardness target. Alloy 89, however, was similar to 440C in corrosion resistance and also had high hardness. The compositions of all of these alloys are not shown in the presentation but alloy 89 was similar to the final composition of 440XH.

Properties of Conventional 440XH

Along with improved hardness relative to 440C, the new 440XH was found to have superior wear resistance as well (lower is better):

However, the toughness of 440XH was reduced relative to 440C:

The relatively low toughness of 440XH is explained by comparing the microstructure between 440XH and 440C, where 440XH has significantly more carbide and much larger carbides:

Micrograph of 440C steel [2]

Powder Metallurgy 440XH

The relatively low toughness of 440XH somewhat limited the broad use of 440XH outside of applications that are limited by wear resistance. Therefore, a powder metallurgy version of 440XH was explored. The properties of the powder metallurgy version were also compared to powder metallurgy 440C, named 40CP. It was discovered that the toughness of 40CP was only marginally better than the conventional 440C, but the PM 440XH was actually found to be superior to 40CP:

To determine why the PM 440XH had superior toughness to PM 40CP, they compared the microstructure of the two steels:

The microstructures look relatively different. The 40CP has more “clumping” of the carbides together with relatively oddly shaped carbides as a result. The PM 440XH has more spherical carbides that have a relatively large diameter for powder metallurgy, consistent with chromium carbides in PM steels. They measured the diameter of the carbides and did a full count of different carbide sizes. The 40CP has more of the largest carbides, which probably explains its poorer toughness:

Therefore the PM 440XH was found to have superior toughness, wear resistance, and hardness when compared to PM 440C (40CP), both with similar corrosion resistance. So it appears to be a superior choice overall.

Properties of XHP Steel

The above discussion is related to the development process as seen by Carpenter metallurgists with the tests that they performed. Below I have a discussion of XHP properties when compared to other knife steels.

The micrograph I took of XHP looks relatively similar to the one provided by Carpenter. It has relatively spherical carbides that compare relatively closely in size with a steel like CPM-154. You can compare the microstructure with other steels in my article of my micrographs. Through analyzing the micrograph with “point counting,” I found the steel to have about 21% carbide volume which is a relatively big number, similar to steels like S90V, 20CV/M390, Maxamet, and 15V. The high carbide volume means relatively high wear resistance but relatively poor toughness when compared with lower carbide volume steels.

Wear Resistance and Edge Retention

Comparing the dry sand rubber wheel wear resistance of XHP to other Carpenter steels, it is very good (35 mm^3), though still not to the level of a steel like 10V with its very hard vanadium carbides.

This good wear resistance also translates to edge retention. XHP has similar edge retention to S35VN or S30V. See in the chart below and compare 3.5% V (S35VN) to the 22% chromium carbide value (XHP):

The lack of vanadium carbide does mean that XHP will not have the same level of edge retention as a steel like S90V, however (9% VC). To learn more about what controls edge retention read my articles here: Part 1 and Part 2.

I planned on performing independent toughness tests on XHP before writing this article, but I have had difficulty purchasing any in an appropriate size, so we will have to wait on those results. Cold Steel Knives decided to move away from XHP due to availability issues [3], so perhaps this is a common problem. However, we can compare with other steels tested by Carpenter and get an idea of where it sits:

The XHP toughness value above is a bit lower than earlier in the article. This value came from the datasheet while the earlier value came from the development powerpoint. As you can see on the chart, in the broader picture XHP does not have particularly great toughness. It can perhaps be said to have “good” toughness. In our toughness testing it would likely be in the 6-10 ft-lb range around 60 Rc:

I did some limited heat treatment experiments with XHP, austenitizing for 15 minutes, plate quenched, liquid nitrogen for 1 hour, and then tempered twice for 2 hours. XHP can reach very high hardness values, up to about 65 Rc.

Those measured values are very close to those presented in the datasheet for XHP [4]:

Corrosion Resistance

I have an article where I calculated the chromium and molybdenum in solution for different knife steels to estimate the approximate corrosion resistance. In that article XHP was estimated to have the lowest chromium in solution of any stainless steel apart from ZDP-189. It makes sense that increasing the carbon content of 440C by 0.5% would lead to a significant reduction in corrosion resistance. You can read about carbon-chromium balance in stainless steels in this article. In my article on D2 corrosion resistance, I estimated that D2 needs about 17.6% chromium for good corrosion resistance using an austenitizing temperature of 1950°F, which is significantly more than the 16% in XHP. The high attainable hardness of XHP is also a clue to low chromium in solution for reasons spelled out in this article. All of those estimates indicate that XHP has relatively low corrosion resistance, which seems to contradict the result from Carpenter showing similar corrosion resistance to 440C. Perhaps that is because of the corrosion testing that was employed (humid environment) rather than in salt water or different acids. XHP may have sufficient corrosion resistance to prevent broad rusting in a humid environment for 200 hours, but differences with other stainless steels are perhaps not seen except for in longer exposure or more extreme environments. However, I have not done any independent corrosion testing on XHP.

Update: I have since tested the corrosion resistance of XHP and found it to be poor.

Finishing and Polishing

The low vanadium content of XHP means it is made up of chromium carbides which are softer than typical abrasives used for polishing and sharpening of steel. That means that XHP should have relatively good ease in finishing, particularly relative to its degree of wear resistance and edge retention. XHP is likely easier to hand finish than S30V, Elmax, M390, S90V, and other high vanadium stainless steels.

Summary and Conclusions

XHP started out as a combination of 440C and D2, an effort to combine the high hardness of D2 with the high corrosion resistance of 440C. The steel had relatively poor toughness, however, due to having very large carbides. A powder metallurgy version, however, had better toughness than PM 440C (40CP). The edge retention of XHP is good, matching S30V and S35VN. The toughness is good as well, likely being similar to other powder metallurgy stainless steels, though independent testing has not yet been performed. XHP can attain rather high hardness for a stainless steel, about 65 Rc, which gives it some versatility in heat treatment. Despite the results of corrosion testing by Carpenter, I have reason to believe the corrosion resistance of XHP is relatively low compared to other stainless steels. XHP should be easier to finish than other PM stainless steels with high vanadium contents, giving it a good balance of ease in finishing and edge retention.
